Q&A: are terracotta glazed pots safe ?
Question by M.: are terracotta glazed pots safe ?
I bought two lovely orange terracotta cooking pots made in Italy by “Therre D’Umbria”. They are glazed with clear glaze on the inside and outside, with no ornamentation or metal pieces. Reading about the lead scare (mainly in Asian and Mexican cookware), I wonder if anybody knows if the pots I bought are safe to cook with.
Thanks!

Well, if they’re called “cooking pots” one would think they were designed and safe for the purpose of cooking. But if you’re extremely concerned, it would be best for you to address this inquiry to the people from whom you made the purchase. Or just keep them as souvenirs and keep using mainstream cookware that you already know is safe.
